​The government of the DRC, led by Joseph Kabila, needs continued support from the international community in both military terms and in terms of aid. While Kabila came to power after the 2003 peace agreement with generally free and fair elections there are reports of corruption in his government. It also has very little control over the Eastern Kivu provinces and other areas allowing for rebel groups to take hold.​
